Achievements

We have completed an exciting piece of research, looking into how bicycle tourism can help power Queensland’s economy, a priority of the Queensland Cycling Strategy 2017-2027.

Bicycle tourism is growing as more visitors realise the joy of riding to explore destinations and spending time being active outdoors. Our fantastic climate means the state is well placed to capitalise on the increasing popularity of riding as part of a holiday in Queensland.

In collaboration with the Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry development, we unpacked the demand and motivations for different bike tourism experiences and the opportunities for and challenges to growing the market.

This is a substantial and innovative piece of research that will help to inform government and tourism industry of the opportunities for regional economic development through bike tourism across Queensland.

Next steps

We will publish and promote research on bike tourism market opportunities for Queensland to support developers of bike tourism experiences, in collaboration with Tourism Events Queensland.
